Untitled Document

Andy Warhol´s work exhibitions never are just displays of artistic items. They themselves always  guarantee high quality performances. And this fact made us organize  Andy Warhol´s exhibition in Ostrava for the very first time.

Project Profile

The exhibition is organized on the occassion of the 20th commemoration of the death of the most famous pop-artist and in close and continuous collaboration with the Andy Warhol Museum of Modern Arts in Medzilaborce (MMUAW).

Objectives

  1. To introduce AW´s work to general public in more comprehensive way
  2. To allow specialists to get in closer touch with AW work
  3. To commemorate the death of one of the greatest artists
  4. To make the visitors aquainted with the current development of pop-art and post pop-art in Slovakia and in the world (see also Secondary line)

To make the public become an active part of the project

Main Line

Andy Warhol - ŽIVOT A SMRT (LIFE AND DEATH)

Main part of the project presents a selection of the best known works representing distinctive segments and periods of Warhol´s life and activities with common subject matter – death.

The content and dramaturgy of the exhibition as well as of all supporting events and respective venues  corresponds to the 20th commemoration of AW death.

Secondary Line

Andy Warhol  and the  post pop-art in Slovakia

The current Slovakian post pop-art will be represented by a selection of works of Daniel Brogyányi, one of the most famous post po-artist in the country.

Terciary Line

The main aim of this part of the event is to make the public become an active part of the project by participation in artistic contests having the possibility to exhibit their works subsequently in reality as well as virtually. The subject matter of the contest is: A. W. – Life and Death.

Jiří Siblík published in renown European specialized art periodicals.  He had close personal relatioships with Byck, Vasarely, Hartung, Francis and many other well known artists. In 1999 his life-work  was acknowledged by American Biographical Institute.

Conclusion

This unique event organized in the city of Ostrava and the whole Moravian-Silesian Region for the very first time should attract visitors – students, artists, youth and public generally – not only from the region. Visitors from neighbouring Poland and Slovakia have already  showed their interest to come to Ostrava just on this special occasion. The Ruthenian minority living in the Czech Repulic will neigher lag behind.

The exhibition concept is made-to-measure to demanding Ostrava inhabitants and to the very special „genius loci“ of the city.

We strongly believe in success of the event and that it will promote the city of Ostrava, its people and its long art tradition.
